Where everyone has a part to play

Established in August 2000, Haringey Shed is a pioneering inclusive performing arts organisation for children and young people, with and without disabilities. Our mission is to improve the lives of children and young people, encourage their independence and integration into the community, through access to the creative arts, including music, dance, and drama. We are intentionally situated within close proximity to some of the most widely disadvantaged wards in London, where young people locally lack significant role models, support and guidance, and access to the arts.

Our Work

Our work has four main strands: (1) performing arts activities for children and young people; (2) performance and events; (3) community arts outreach; (4) volunteering and developing inclusive arts practitioners.

Activities

We offer a range of activities for children and young people, including:

Children's Theatre (Age 7-11)

Our children's theatre provides a wonderful opportunity for children to explore the world of theatre and the performing arts in a safe and supportive environment. We combine acting, singing, and movement to build performance skills, confidence, and social connections all whilst having fun.

Youth Theatre (Age 11-16)

Combining acting, singing, and movement, our Youth Theatre gives young people the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop their performance skills. With annual performances, young people get to collaboratively devise original shows and showcase their talents as well as develop life skills such as teamwork, confidence, and communication.

Music Making (Age 7-19)

Music Making allows young musicians of all abilities to explore their creativity through music, pick up an instrument, and start to create and understand making music. Young people will get the chance to explore learning/using instruments, writing lyrics, and creating songs. Young people are supported in collaborating to create original music and work towards exciting performance opportunities to showcase their newfound skills.

Youth Forum (Age 11-19)

Youth Forum gives young people the opportunity to come together to socialise and provides a platform for young people to voice their opinions and ideas to make change to things that are important to them. Youth Forum hosts guest workshops, participates in research, and organises events both at Haringey Shed and in the wider community.

Shed Moves (Age 7-16)

Our dance company, Shed Moves, allows young dancers to take on different dance styles, explore the foundations of movement, and gain confidence in their abilities. The diverse range of techniques offered and the opportunity to learn how to create their own choreography provides a brilliant platform for growing their performance skills and confidence.

Young Adults Company (Age 16-19)

Under One Roof focuses on devising new work, creative writing, and a variety of performance styles, which allows for exploration of different aspects of theatre. This young adults company provides a great place for young people to explore new ideas, push the boundaries of their creativity, and develop their theatrical skills further.

Big Noise Choir (Age 7-16)

Big Noise Choir is our company of singers who develop their musicality and vocal techniques through group sessions. They include fun vocal workshops and learning a variety of songs from different world genres. Alongside their vocal singing, Big Noise Choir also learn sign language to the lyrics and develop their performance skills.

Writers Room (Age 11-19)

Writers Room will focus on exploring different types of writing and development such as script writing, spoken word, and poetry. The group explores writing styles, genres, and strategies to create unique and personal performance pieces. This session is an opportunity for young people to develop their own ideas, increase their skills, and further down the line, bring their ideas to life.

Holiday Activities

Haringey Shed offers a variety of performing arts workshops and projects during the school holidays. Projects are different each holiday, so please contact us for more details. Just some of our previous projects include creating a play in a week, spoken word, film making, and music production.

Residential Trips

Residential trips are some of the most anticipated events in the Haringey Shed calendar. The residential trips provide fun activities, educational opportunities, and team-building exercises that are designed to help young people develop new skills, build confidence, and make new friends.

Kidstime

Kidstime is a series of workshops for children and their families aimed at helping overcome fears and stigma associated with mental illness, in a friendly, supportive, and fun environment. Workshops assist families where a parent may be affected by mental health. Kidstime is for all the family - parents, carers, and children.
