Inspiring the next generation of performers
Our Story
Mount Carmel Kindergarten was established in 1985 by Lucia and Franco Federici, who were inspired by the desire to provide high-quality early years education. In 1991, the nursery relocated to its current location in the tranquil surroundings of Sandpit Lane. In 2000, the school expanded with the addition of Kinder Lodge, a bespoke Norwegian Log cabin situated within the playing fields adjacent to the Oaklands Grange Development. Both nurseries are managed by our Principal, Gabriella Spooner (nee Federici), and her dedicated team.
Lucia continues to contribute her expertise and passion for early years education by providing weekly cooking sessions, occasional puppet shows, and supporting with Nativity Plays and Sports days. She remains deeply involved in the children's play and planning with the staff team, ensuring that Mount Carmel Kindergarten maintains its high standards and commitment to providing exceptional care.
The name 'Mount Carmel' was chosen in honour of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Our Christian values are reflected in our pedagogy, emphasising kindness, respect, and tolerance. We proudly welcome families from all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and diverse community.
Our Unique Approach
At Mount Carmel Kindergarten, we employ a unique "carousel" method of early years education. This approach ensures that children are settled and engaged in a variety of learning experiences during every session. Our carefully planned curriculum provides a smooth transition from home or daycare settings to school, equipping children with the skills and mindset required for a successful start to their educational journey.
Flexible Attendance
We offer a flexible alternative to traditional daycare by combining quality pre-school education with extended hours and optional holiday clubs. This allows us to cater to the unique needs of each family, ensuring a seamless balance between education and care.
Exceptional Facilities
Both of our settings, Kinder Lodge and Sandpit House, have recently undergone extensive refurbishment and are exceptionally well-resourced. Our locations in the beautiful green belt offer access to country walks and woodland activities, enhancing the children's learning experiences.
Family Run
Mount Carmel Kindergarten is proudly run by Lucia and Franco Federici, who are parents to ten children. Many families learn about us through personal recommendation, with some even having attended the nursery themselves as children.
