Experience the Art of Handthrown Pottery
The Meadows Pottery, established in 1988, is a renowned pottery studio and gallery located in the heart of Edinburgh's Southside, near the Summerhall arts venue. Our studio is a treasure trove of beautifully crafted, high-quality stoneware and porcelain pieces, ranging from functional everyday items to stunning pieces of art.
Our Story
Our passion for pottery is evident in every piece that leaves our studio. With over three decades of experience, we have developed a distinctive range of glazes that add a touch of elegance to every piece. From humble beginnings to the present day, we have remained committed to supplying customers directly with reasonably priced, high-quality stoneware that is warm, simple, and easy on the eye. Our pots are made with love, care, and attention to detail, ensuring that every piece is a testament to our dedication to the craft.
Our Services
At The Meadows Pottery, we offer a wide range of services to cater to your pottery needs. Whether you're looking for a unique gift, a special piece for your home, or a bespoke commission, we're here to help. Our studio is open to visitors, and we welcome you to browse our extensive collection of handthrown stoneware and porcelain pieces. We also accept commissions and are always keen to discuss the possibilities with you. Additionally, we offer gift vouchers, which make an ideal present for friends and family.
Our Pottery
We take great pride in our pottery, which is made on the premises by our skilled potters. Every piece is handthrown on the potter's wheel, ensuring that each item is unique and of the highest quality. Our stoneware is high-fired oxidised, fired in an electric kiln to Cone 10, which is around 1300 degrees Celsius. This process ensures that our pottery is durable, functional, and beautiful. From espresso cups to large dishes, vases, and art pieces, our pottery is designed to bring joy and beauty to your daily life.
Our Gallery
Our gallery is a showcase of our latest creations, as well as works from our archives. We're proud to have collaborated with the extraordinary photographer Iga Gozdowska, whose stunning images capture the essence of our pottery. We also feature the wonderful poetry of our collaborator, the makar Elizabeth Burns, which adds an extra layer of depth and meaning to our pottery.
