Our History

Our history can be traced back to the start of E Finch & Son in 1857, a family business founded by John Ford's ancestors. In 1897, G M Luff was founded by Thomas Marshall Luff, a business that would later become Ford Mears' first acquisition in 1986. Since then, our Directors have continued to grow the company by acquiring a number of fellow well-established local independent funeral directors. Today, we operate across a wide area from South West London through to Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, and West Sussex.

This service is available throughout the South directly with Green Funerals or through our various office locations. Our Green Funerals strive to provide the most environmentally friendly funeral service possible within a natural burial ground and utilise our fully electric hearse.

Our Somerset Willow Coffins are handcrafted by skilled craftsmen using locally sourced materials. These coffins are an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional coffins and are biodegradable.
