Richard Ludlow Fisher, a seasoned architect with extensive experience in both domestic and major capital projects, started his own practice in the New Forest in 1996. After holding key positions in medium and large firms across various countries including South Africa, Algeria, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Barbados, USA, Kiribati, and the UK, Richard established his own firm with a commitment to provide top-notch architectural services. Over the years, the practice has served more than one hundred clients, primarily focusing on domestic architecture that ranges in value from below 10,000 to over 750,000 and from simple extensions to new builds.

Richard's portfolio also includes a variety of swimming pool buildings, a commercial kitchen, and garden design. One of the defining characteristics of his practice is the individual attention he gives to every commission, irrespective of the contract value. His meticulousness and attention to detail are evident in his work, which adheres to the watchword of the practice, "Simply Better Design." Richard is adept at working with various materials such as steel and glass, brick and slate, or cob and thatch, depending on the specific site, client, and local authority constraints.

Selected Projects

• Living Room Extension and Office, Milford on Sea, 2015: This project involved the design and construction of a sleek, modern, single-storey extension to an Edwardian Village House, resulting in a spacious and contemporary living area.

• Garage for a Coddled Classic Bentley and Garden Room, 2014: In this project, Richard designed a traditional garage for a classic Bentley, along with an adjacent garden room featuring a mezzanine sleeping loft and large sitting area.

• Tides Reach, Lymington 2013: This major two-storey extension significantly increased the building's size and incorporated a spacious living area and kitchen on the ground floor, with additional bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor.

• Grandad Annexe, Boldre, 2012: Designing an economical annexe space for a highly active 92-year-old skier, Richard created a traditional yet light-filled space that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

• Bedroom Extension in Frogham, 2012: A simple steel and glass solution was implemented for this bedroom extension, resulting in an inexpensive and visually appealing addition that delighted the former High Court judge client.

• Replacement Outbuilding, New Forest, 2010: In this project, Richard transformed a dangerous all-timber outbuilding into a safer and more functional structure, incorporating a reinforced foundation slab and a 150 mm deep pervious layer for rainwater management.
