La Lanterna Ristorante - where Italian passion meets Yorkshire warmth

La Lanterna Ristorante is a Yorkshire institution that has been serving the people of Scarborough for nearly 40 years. Chef-patron Giorgio Alessio has been at the helm since 1997, working tirelessly to live up to the accolade given to him by the Italian daily newspaper La Stampa - 'the English temple of Italian cuisine'.

Our Story

Born and bred in Piedmont, Italy, Giorgio brings with him the culinary traditions of his native region. His passion for cooking is infectious, and his love for the local produce in Yorkshire is evident in every dish that leaves the kitchen. Giorgio's culinary journey began in his youth, where he learned the art of cooking from his family and mentors. His experiences have been shaped by his cultural heritage and the rich culinary traditions of Piedmont.

Our Menu

Our menu is a reflection of Giorgio's passion for cooking and his love for the local produce. From our Antipasti selection, which features dishes such as Stufato di Pesce di Scarborough with crostone, to our Pasta e Risotti options, which include Spaghetti al Ragaout al Stracotto di Manzo, there is something for everyone. We are proud to source our ingredients from local suppliers wherever possible, ensuring that our dishes are not only delicious but also sustainable.

Our Philosophy

At La Lanterna Ristorante, we believe that food should be a celebration of life. We strive to create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming, where our guests can come together to share in the joy of good food and company. Our culinary philosophy is rooted in the traditions of Piedmont, where food plays a central role in family gatherings and celebrations.
