Located in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Long House Cottages offers a tranquil and peaceful retreat amidst the stunning natural beauty of the Langdale Valley. Our self-catering holiday cottages are nestled in a picturesque south-facing terraced garden, boasting breathtaking views of the surrounding fells and valleys.
Our Accommodations
We have four self-catering holiday cottages available, sleeping from two to six people. Each cottage is carefully designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing stay, with private off-road parking and WiFi internet access. Sorry, but we do not allow pets.
Yan, Tan & Tethera Cottages
Three of our cottages, named after the traditional way of counting sheep, are individually converted from a traditional Lakeland barn. Each cottage sleeps up to four people in two separate bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms. The terraced garden has sitting-out areas to enjoy the superb mountain views and a wide variety of birds visit our birdfeeders. Enclosed off-road parking is available, and WiFi is also provided.
Facilities
Each cottage has a unique set of features, including:
- A porch with a built-in coat hook and space for boots and shoes
- A living/dining room with an open roof and exposed beams, featuring a three-piece suite, dining table, and chairs
- A kitchen with a fridge, electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave oven, electric kettle, toaster, and all necessary utensils
- A ground-floor bedroom with a double bed and good views of the valley
- An upper galleried bedroom with a twin bed
- Two en-suite bathrooms, each with a bath, handbasin, toilet, mirror, and heated towel rail
The History of Long House
Our Long House cottage dates back to the 17th century and is a traditional Lakeland cottage with lots of character. The cottage retains many original features, including old oak beams, original slate floors, stained glass windows, and a log-burning stove. The spacious cottage has three bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, and can accommodate up to six people.
The Cottage
Situated in a picturesque valley, Long House cottage is a tranquil retreat with a garden facing south, which has a sitting-out area to enjoy the superb mountain views of the head of the valley. Enclosed off-road parking is available, and WiFi is also provided. Sorry, but pets are not permitted.

Disappointments
One guest reported that the property was cold when they arrived, taking two days to heat up. Another guest found the cottage to be small and cramped for their party of four. The heating was also found to be inadequate for the cold weather, resulting in a satisfactory but not exceptional stay.
