Our School Vision
At Milefield Primary School, we are committed to delivering a broad and balanced curriculum that inspires and empowers our pupils. Our core vision of Engage, Inspire, Empower & Learn is woven throughout our teaching and learning experiences, with the aim of engaging children in their learning, inspiring a thirst for knowledge, and empowering them with the skills they need to succeed. Our ultimate goal is to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where all our pupils can learn, grow, and flourish.
About Us
Milefield Primary School is an average-sized primary school, serving the community of Grimethorpe. With 300 pupils on roll, we are a 1.5 form entry school with 3 classes per key stage, as well as a 52-place nursery for children from the age of 3. Our school attendance target is 97%, and we have a range of incentives and strategies aimed at raising attendance and ensuring the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.
Our dedicated team of office staff, including Miss V Clark and Mrs S Archer, are always available to help with any queries you may have, whether you are a parent or otherwise. Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Ms J Chambers, and our SEND Administrator is Ms D Haslam. We have a dedicated Pupil Welfare Leader, Miss L Jones, and our Executive Head of School is Mrs Trickett, and our Head of School is Mr McClure.
School Curriculum
At Milefield Primary School, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at improving outcomes across all subjects. Our school day layout is from 8.45am to 3.15pm, and a full week of school equates to 32.5 hours. Our current school improvement priorities include narrowing the gap to national across all key stages, with a particular focus on raising standards in writing.
We are proud to be a member of Hoyland Common Academy Trust (HCAT) and joined them in July 2021. Since then, HCAT has provided support and training to our staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.

Our staff are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that fosters a love of learning and empowers our pupils to reach their full potential.
Our teachers possess a wealth of expertise and experience in delivering the primary curriculum and are skilled at differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Our support staff play a vital role in supporting the learning and wellbeing of our pupils, and our leadership team is dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.
Our Curriculum
At Milefield Primary School, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that includes the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, and Computing, as well as the foundation subjects of Art, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Music, and Physical Education.
Our curriculum is designed to be engaging, relevant, and challenging, and to equip our pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. We have a particular focus on developing key literacy and numeracy skills and use a range of strategies and approaches to support pupils in their learning.
We believe that learning should be hands-on, experiential, and fun, and we offer a range of opportunities for pupils to learn both inside and outside the classroom. We also offer a range of enrichment activities, including after-school clubs and trips and residential experiences, that provide further opportunities for pupils to learn, grow, and have fun.
