At WT Architecture, we are dedicated to creating buildings that become an integral part of their inhabitants' lives, reflecting their needs, desires, and the unique character of the locations they are built in. We are an award-winning contemporary Scottish architecture firm, with offices in South Queensferry, just outside Edinburgh, and in Argyll. Our diverse portfolio includes large and small-scale projects across Scotland, from landmark visitor centres and community hubs to private houses, extensions, and bothies. Our design ethos revolves around craftsmanship, collaboration, and a strong connection to the place and landscape in which we build.

Place & Landscape

Creating architecture that genuinely belongs to its place and landscape is the core of our design approach. Scotland and the UK are home to some of the most stunning, sensitive, and historic landscapes. Working in these beautiful areas requires a deep understanding of a site's historical, climatic, seasonal, cultural, social, and environmental aspects. This comprehension can only be achieved by spending time with our clients, learning the significance and value a site holds for them. By delving into the essence of a place, we construct compelling narratives that connect the building with the community, making our architecture meaningful for those who use the spaces and places we create.

Our portfolio includes projects in protected landscapes, listed buildings, and in close proximity to national monuments. We are experienced in designing for Scotland's challenging wild and exposed landscapes and adept at addressing the complexities of inner-city sites. We respect and preserve the landscape and built environment in which our buildings live.

How We Work

WT Architecture is a dynamic and close-knit team of talented, experienced, and award-winning architects. Led by principal William Tunnell, our studio has expanded to include eight qualified architects, three architectural assistants, a practice manager, and an architectural technician. Our architectural team members are exceptional designers who bring a wealth of experience and a commitment to delivering projects to the highest standards. We operate with an emphasis on innovation, collaboration, mutual respect, and a passion for our work. Our programmes and resources are carefully tailored to allow our teams the time and space to deliver personalised and high-quality service. We continuously seek opportunities to enhance our skills and expertise through research and training.

We take great care in meeting the varying demands of budget, programme, and local policy that accompany our diverse building types, clientele, and locations. Attention to detail and the pursuit of innovative solutions are key aspects of our projects.

Craft & Collaboration

Constructing the designs is as important as the design process. Our collaborative approach extends to the entire network of people who contribute to the realisation of a building. Early conversations with clients, engaging local authorities, fostering strong relationships with our design team, and continuous communication with contractors are essential aspects of our design process.

We employ detailed modelling in the early design stages, integrating construction methods, craftsmanship, and innovation as crucial elements of design development. Our commitment to the materials we use and the skills of the people who construct our buildings is evident in our completed projects. We allocate a significant portion of the construction period for site attendance, ensuring that the construction team has a clear understanding of the design ambitions and allowing for expert input in refining the final construction.
