At The Queens, we have a rich history that dates back to 1841. Our pub was originally built around this time and was named The Queens Head after Queen Victoria. Over the years, we have undergone many transformations, but our commitment to providing excellent service and quality food has remained the same.
Our History
Our pub has a long and storied past, with many notable figures having played a part in our history. From Charles Guest, who was both a licensed victualler and a farmer and timber merchant, to George Griffiths, who was the owner and occupier of the inn in the late 19th century. Our pub has also been used as a gas decontamination centre during the Second World War and as a base for a private bus service.
Today
Today, we are a family-run pub and restaurant, with Tim and Jane at the helm since 1999. Over the years, we have adapted and renovated the premises extensively, including the recent conversion of the derelict outbuildings into bed and breakfast accommodation.
Our Pub
Our pub has an open-plan design with distinct areas that merge nicely together. The main bar has solid oak flooring and low beamed ceilings, giving a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. This flows down a couple of steps into our beautiful, vaulted roof restaurant. Our bar is dog-friendly, and we offer a range of local ales, wines, and produce from around the county.
Our Restaurant
Our restaurant boasts a large arched window with bi-fold doors that open onto our pretty patio area at the rear of the pub. Our menu focuses on good, local homemade food, with a strong emphasis on seasonal produce. Our menu changes daily, but we do keep some of our most popular dishes, such as Piggin Chicken and Beer Battered Cod, going throughout the year. Our Sunday Roasts are also very popular, with Herefordshire Beef and Shropshire Turkey always a hit.
Our Rooms
We offer three separate accommodation units, 'Upper Cottage', 'Lower Cottage', and 'The Stable', which are set in the courtyard behind the pub. Each unit is designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing stay, with all the amenities you need to unwind. We also offer a range of services, including breakfast and dinner options.
Our Location
We are located in the heart of historic Ludlow, a picturesque town in Shropshire, known for its stunning architecture, vibrant arts scene, and rich history. We are easily accessible by car, with ample parking available nearby.
Conclusion
At The Queens, we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious local food. Whether you're looking for a relaxing break, a romantic getaway, or just a delicious meal, we have something for everyone. So why not come and visit us today?
