Mells Nursery

At Mells Nursery, we pride ourselves on creating an environment where children can grow and learn at their own pace. With paint on their hands, mud on their knees, and sand between their toes, our nursery is a place of wonder, adventure, and curiosity. We believe that every child is unique and should be treated as such, and our team of caring, supportive, and interested adults work tirelessly to ensure that each child's voice is heard and respected.

Our small community of children, parents, and staff believe that anything is possible when we come together. We welcome families from the picturesque Somerset village of Mells and the surrounding area, and we are proud to serve as a term-time, voluntary run, private, community pre-school for children aged 2 years old until school age. Our setting operates during school term-time only, and we are committed to providing a caring, safe place where children can be independent, curious, and question the world around them.

Our Services

At Mells Nursery, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage as a long-term plan to help each child reach their potential. We offer a wide range of services designed to support children's learning and development, including:

• Interesting and inspiring indoor and outdoor environments where children can flourish and learn at their own pace
• A team of caring, supportive, and interested adults who respect and listen to children's voices, learn with them, and support them to follow their own interests and lines of enquiry
• A maximum of 23 children per session, with a maximum of 8 children who are less than 3 years old
• Ofsted minimum staffing requirements of 1 member of staff to 4 two year olds, and 1 member of staff for 8 three year olds
• Term-time, voluntary run, private, community pre-school for children aged 2 years old until school age

Admissions

Mells Nursery is currently oversubscribed and is full until September 2026. We operate a waiting list and are able to add new children to that list upon application. In line with our Admissions policy, due to being over-subscribed, we apply an upper limit to the number of hours that children may attend the Nursery. This maximum number of hours varies with age and is usually a maximum of 2 days for 2 year olds and 3 days for 3+ year olds.

Mells Nursery was awarded 'Outstanding' in all areas by Ofsted in March 2020. We are incredibly proud of this recognition and strive to maintain the highest standards of care and education for all children in our setting.
