Your Trustworthy Partner for All Your Electrical Needs
Ardern Hodges Ltd. is a company with a rich history and a strong commitment to quality and sustainability. With 25 years of experience in the woodworking industry, we have built a reputation for providing bespoke joinery, cabinetwork, and flooring for architects, private customers, and contractors. Over the past 20 years, we have specialized in wide-board floating engineered floors with a very low movement factor, making them 20 to 30 times more stable than solid oak flooring. Our staff is fully trained and experienced in manufacturing, fitting, and finishing flooring to a high specification, and all manufacturing is done in-house at our factory in Holloway, London N7.
Our Flooring
At Ardern Hodges Ltd., we offer temperate engineered flooring made from non-tropical and fully sustainable species, including European oak, English elm, American black walnut, Canadian maple, American white oak, and American white ash. Our flooring is made with a core of 12mm 9-layer 100% birch plywood, faced with 4mm prime hardwood, and backed with 4mm hardwood of the same or similar species. The floorboards are 200mm wide, 20mm thick, and random length, normally 1800mm to 3000mm.
When laid, the floor looks like a traditional timber floor, with a single slice of wood to each board. All materials used are fully sustainable, sourced in the United Kingdom, Northern Europe, and North America. Our timber suppliers produce from managed forests, to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or equivalent standard. Our flooring can be used in most environments, including kitchens, bathrooms, halls, offices, shops, galleries, and restaurants, and is suitable for use with or without underfloor heating.
Understanding Wood Manufacturing Process
At Ardern Hodges Ltd., we take great care in the manufacturing process of our flooring. Our prime grade hardwoods come direct to us from the timber producers, and all our products are manufactured in-house in Holloway, London. European oak is sourced from 100 to 200-year-old trees from forests in France, some of which were planted on Napoleon's instructions for future warship construction. Oak is a traditional floor, strong, hard-wearing, and with a golden yellow color, variety of grain, and patterns.
Elm comes from Scotland, where it is too cold for the beetle to spread Dutch elm disease. It is not as hard as oak, but wears very well, and scratches are nearly invisible. This is an unusual floor as solid un-engineered elm is very unstable. Our wide variety of grain and color in our elm flooring makes it a popular choice.
American black walnut comes from the American Mid-West and is considered the best dark floor available. Its rich, dark color and durability make it a popular choice for those looking for a high-end flooring option.
Conclusion
At Ardern Hodges Ltd., we are committed to providing high-quality, sustainable flooring options for our customers. With 25 years of experience in the woodworking industry, we have the knowledge and expertise to manufacture and install flooring to a high specification. We take great care in the manufacturing process, sourcing our materials from sustainable and responsible sources, and manufacturing in-house to ensure the highest quality standards. Whether you are looking for a traditional oak floor, a unique elm floor, or a rich, dark walnut floor, we have the products and expertise to deliver.

Negative Feedback
One of the customers, Marc Hansen, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the company's service. He paid a significant amount for the floors in 2015, but when he needed repairs in 2021, the company dropped him a week before the scheduled work, citing Brexit as the reason for not having qualified staff. They recommended another company, which ultimately destroyed the floors, making the repaired areas look different in texture and appearance compared to the original areas.
