Taking a leap of faith, they purchased The Old Crown, transforming its barn into a microbrewery. Today, their legacy lives on as Hesket Newmarket Brewery, renowned for its award-winning beers.

When Jim and Liz eventually retired, the community stepped in to ensure the pub's survival. Driven by a desire to safeguard its unique character and prevent it from falling into corporate hands, 125 locals invested in the co-operative purchase in 2003.
