At West Backwell Bowls Club, we offer a variety of opportunities for beginners to try bowls. Our popular "Try Bowls Tuesdays" event takes place every Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm, and provides newcomers with the opportunity to meet fellow beginners and learn the basics of the sport from our qualified coaches. Additionally, our "Friday Club Night" offers a chance to visit the club, meet our members, and enjoy a hotdog in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Novice Tournament 2023
We are thrilled to announce that our Novice Tournament for 2023 is now full, and we are looking forward to releasing details on our 2024 tournament. Who Are We?
Our club is a diverse and inclusive community, with players ranging from teenagers to our eldest member in their 90's. We pride ourselves on our welcoming atmosphere, and we offer a dedicated beginners section with qualified coaching and support. Our teams play in five leagues countywide, and we run over 20 competitions and tournaments for all our players. Additionally, we host County and National matches, and our well-maintained green and clubhouse provide an excellent venue for players and spectators alike.
How to Start?
We are delighted to welcome new members to West Backwell Bowls Club. Our season runs from late April to early September, and players can access the club from 10 am to 9 pm. We have an easy-to-use online booking system, and upon joining, new members will be provided with access to the club. We offer a variety of ways for new bowlers to gain experience, including a beginners playing group, coaching, Friday night mixed triples, regular mixed friendlies, internal club competitions, and Friday night club roll-up nights.
What Do I Wear?
There are no specific dress requirements for playing at West Backwell Bowls Club, aside from wearing shoes with flat soles to protect the grass on the green. During matches and competitions, there is a dress code that includes a club shirt and white or grey trousers. Our on-site changing rooms and locker facilities make it easy to change and store equipment.
Social Events
At West Backwell Bowls Club, we offer a range of social events alongside internal bowls competitions, including BBQs, Sunday Carvery, Fish and Chips supper, and Talks. As a member, you will have access to all social events, along with the playing options.
Facilities
Our clubhouse is equipped with separate Male and Female changing rooms and toilets, along with a disabled toilet and lockers in each changing room. Our well-stocked bar takes cash or card, and our kitchen and function room/bar area provide an excellent space for socializing. Terrace seating outside offers a chance to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine during breaks in play.
