Douglas's passion for photography began at a young age, thanks to his father's influence and the gift of his first camera. By the age of 12, he had a darkroom set up in his home, where he processed and developed his own photographs. His love of walking and climbing in the Scottish landscape has greatly influenced his work, providing countless opportunities to chase and capture the elusive and unique Scottish light. Over the years, Douglas has been published in numerous national photography magazines and has regularly commissioned work from various companies for publicity and website materials. His work is also exhibited in several venues and galleries throughout Ayrshire.

In late 2004, Douglas made the transition to digital photography, utilizing the latest DSLRs and mirrorless cameras to produce superb quality images. His preferred camera brand is Nikon, and he has an impressive collection of lenses, filters, tripods, and monopods to complement his equipment. Douglas utilizes Adobe Photoshop CC 2024 software to convert raw images for ultimate quality, followed by final tweaks in his favourite plugin suite, Nik Complete and Luminar Neo.
