Our welcoming bar is the perfect place to grab a sandwich and a beer, or to enjoy a relaxing pint, a glass of delicious wine, or a nightcap at the end of a long day.
Our private dining suite is available for larger parties, and our exclusive use of the first floor private dining suite features bespoke menus designed by our Michelin-starred chef, James. We also offer a special little people's menu for children, making us a family-friendly destination.
About Us
The Pipe and Glass is a family-run business, owned by James and Kate Mackenzie, who took over the inn in 2006. Since then, we have transformed the premises into the warm and welcoming pub that it is today. It's a real family affair, with James running the kitchen, Kate running front of house, and their children, Toby and Molly, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We are proud to have been awarded a Michelin star, which we have held since 2010, as well as numerous other awards, including The Good Pub Guide's National Dining Pub of the Year for 2015. We are also placed at number four in the national Morning Advertiser/Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropubs Awards for 2013 and 2014, and at number three in 2015.
History
The former coaching inn stands on the site of the original gatehouse to Dalton Park on the beautiful Dalton Estate, with parts of the current building dating back to the 17th century. After an initial major refurbishment in 2006, James and Kate have updated the premises regularly, including an exclusive private dining suite and a kitchen garden, added as part of an ambitious garden redesign. The Pipe and Glass now offers nine luxury boutique rooms across two sites; The Garden Rooms, at the pub itself and The Old Lambing Yard, just a stones throw away in the village.
