Preserving the Past, Building the Future
Welcome to the website of Tim Ellis Conservation Architect, a sole practitioner architectural practice specialising in historic buildings conservation in the London and Kent areas. With a rich experience of over 20 years, our principal architect, Tim Ellis, has worked for several architectural practices in Canterbury, London, and Cambridge, as well as serving as a Conservation Officer for Canterbury City Council.
Our practice is dedicated to providing expert services in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, ranging from medieval to early twentieth-century structures. We understand the importance of preserving the cultural and historical significance of these buildings, and we take pride in our attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Our Services
We offer a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients. From initial consultations and site surveys to design development, planning applications, and project management, we provide a personal and professional approach to every project. Our services include:
- Historic building conservation and restoration
- Repairs, additions, and alterations to existing buildings
- Design and development of new buildings in historic contexts
- Site surveys and measured site surveys
- Design development and planning applications
- Project management and coordination of contractors and consultants
- Detailing of brickwork, joinery, and metalwork
Our Process
Our process begins with an initial consultation, where we meet with the client to discuss the scope of works and make a preliminary assessment of the building. This is followed by a measured site survey, which provides an opportunity to understand the building's construction, evolution, and flaws. We then develop a design concept and produce draft proposals for discussion with the client. Once the proposals are finalised, we submit an application for Planning Permission and/or Listed Building Consent, accompanied by Design and Access Statements and other necessary reports.
After receiving statutory consents, we proceed with submitting an application for Building Regulations approval, followed by the preparation of working drawings, schedules of works, and specifications. We work closely with contractors and consultants to ensure that the project is completed to the highest standards.
Our Expertise
With our extensive experience in historic building conservation, we possess a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges involved in working with sensitive and culturally significant structures. Our expertise includes detailing of brickwork, joinery, and metalwork, as well as coordinating with other consultants and contractors to ensure a seamless project delivery.
