Thunder Engineering has been established since 1992 and specialises in the supply of precision engineered components in a wide range of materials to a diverse range of industries using state of the art CAD/CAM and CNC machining facilities. We pride ourselves in being able to work to the high standards required whilst retaining the individual flexibility to produce these components to the tight deadlines our customers require.

Our Services

At Thunder Engineering, our main areas of engineering include precision component manufacture, including prototyping and modification services. We offer a range of services, including:

• Full CNC machining capabilities, 3D CAD/CAM using One CNC Expert modelling facilities capable of accepting customer drawings/models in various formats including DXF and IGES.
• Intricate machining of small and medium batches, short run specialists, conventional milling, turning, drilling, and grinding.
• Inspection and measurement: We are able to provide in-house inspection and measurement using our FARO Gauge multi-axis measuring arm and PC-based software to provide reports, drawings, DXF or IGES files.

We also offer historic motor sport and motorcycle specialists, manufacture of one-off components or prototypes, subcontract machining of components and castings in all materials, reverse engineering of obsolete components using our FARO Gauge multi-axis measuring arm, and engine and gearbox assembly and modifications in our purpose-built clean room.

• FARO Gauge multi-axis measuring arm, accurate to 0.001 mm, used for inspection or to reverse engineer components.
• OneCNC XR6 Professional 3D CAD/CAM software.
• HURCO VM10i Vertical Machining Centre, Travels X660mm Y406mm Z508mm, 20 tools, 10,000 RPM spindle.
• HURCO BMC 30 vertical machining centre, Travels X 760mm Y 450mm Z 610mm, 24 tools, SSM control with Ultipocket, 3D mould software, rigid tapping 8000 RPM spindle.
• Harrison M350 Gap bed centre lathe, 360mm swing, 1.6 meters between centres.
• Harrison M300 Gap bed centre lathe, 250mm swing, 750 mm between centres.
• Jones & Shipman 1300 Cylindrical Grinder, Capacity 250 mm Dia x 680mm.
• Jones & Shipman 540 surface grinder, Travels X 450mm Y 150mm.
• Eurospark H425-p25 spark eroder.
• Sunnen Horizontal Hone Vixen hot wash degreasing tank, 600mm basket, temp up to 100oC.
• Kempi 250 amp AC/DC TIG.
• Murex Tradesmig 235 amp.
• Guyson Bead & grit blast cabinet, dims 1000mm x 800mm x 800mm.

Our Expertise

Our considerable experience in club, national, and international racing on 2, 3, and 4 wheels allows us to assist customers in design and manufacture. We also offer restoration, refurbishment, and repair of customer's components, bead and grit blasting facilities, Mig and TIG welding on aluminium, steel, and stainless steel.
