At Barrett & Coe, we are proud to be the oldest portrait photography business in the world, tracing our roots back to 1849 when John Sawyer first advertised his portrait photography services from his home in Norwich. Since then, we have grown and evolved to become one of the largest portrait companies in the country, with a nationwide network of studios and a reputation for delivering exceptional quality and service.
Our Brand Heritage
Our story began when John Sawyer leased premises at 32 London Street, Norwich, in 1854, and later employed 19-year-old Albert Edward Coe to manage the company in 1863. In 1883, Albert Edward Coe bought the business, which has remained family-owned and operated to this day. Andrew, the current owner, is Albert Edward Coe's great-grandson. Throughout our history, we have continued to innovate and adapt to changing times, always prioritizing our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
